• Quilt top is done !

Just a quick post to show off ‘Circular Saw’. The quilt top is done and ended up 47″ x 62″. I think it turned out GREAT !

Here are some of the fabrics that I am pulling together for my next project. Many of them are from two fat quarter samplers I purchased from Connecting Threads quite some time ago. I have already decided on the block and layout but not sure about the size. I will share more information in my next post.

Three more seams to sew and I will have finished my ‘Circular Saw’ quilt top. I came up with a few ideas for a border but none of them seem to be right. I decided to seek the advice of a couple of my quilting friends. They suggested that I leave the border off and do a scrappy binding. Hopefully, I will get a chance to finish the quilt this weekend. That will free up the design wall for my ‘Ribbon Candy’ quilt blocks.

Boy, doesn’t this quilt look huge! Well, at least until I start sewing the blocks together. Sashings are done and I think that I have finally decided that the posts and corners will be grey (no inserts). In two of the posts and one border section I have pinned a few grey scraps to see what it would look like. The quilt is turning out better than I had anticipated. Can we say AWESOME!   Yeah!

One of the things I did this past weekend is update my ‘My Quilt’ page. It now (FINALLY) has photos of most of my 2014 quilts. If you click on a photo you will be able see them all in a slide show. I still need to find photos of my 2013 quilts and I am thinking that I want to add a separate gallery for quilts that are ‘BB’ – before blog.

Making progress on the sashing strips for ‘Gum Drops’. I have eight done of the 31 that I need. I am very happy with the look. Still undecided on what to do for posts and corners.

I am sure you have seen many quilts featuring this split block in blogland. Not sure if it has an official name but here is one version at Quilter’s Table called Postcard Quilt. In the book ‘Colorful Quilts for Fabric Lovers’ by the folks at Blue Underground Studios, I found a couple of different versions. I love the simplicity of the design which allows the big prints to show off.

My ‘Circular Saw’ quilt is coming together quickly. I already have the blocks sewn into rows.

No…this post has nothing to do with power tools. It is the name of my version of the ‘delectable mountains’ quilt. I am so excited about it that I couldn’t wait to show you my idea.

Last week, I showed you the fabrics I had chosen and since then I have been busy working on the blocks. I was inspired by the photo of Amy Smart’s ‘Buzz Saw’ quilt posted in her blog Diary of a Quilter and Eleanor Burns method of making the blocks. Here is a link to Eleanor’s short video showing you the steps.

When I started cross cutting the blocks, I realized that I needed a new rotary blade. OMG. What a difference. Like slicing butter. I knew that I needed to change the blade but it isn’t until you do that you realize that you should have done it sooner. So far the 2″ strips are sewn into pairs. Because I can’t leave a great layout alone – I decided to mix up the strips within the blocks.
