I LOVE … LOVE … LOVE how this quilt turned out. It ended up being a bit bigger than I had originally anticipated. After I had made the blocks, I decided to go with bigger grey sashing and outer borders which made the quilt finish at 69″ x 89″. If you are new to this blog, you can read a little more about the quilt’s inspiration HERE
I did realize one thing while working on this quilt. It has been awhile since I made a quilt this big. Really….how could I have forgotten the difficult of pressing a big quilt on a not as big ironing surface. I was trying so hard to be careful when I was pressing the first half of the quilt. But after turning the quilt around to press the other side I found that I ended up putting wrinkles in the first half. I either need to make smaller quilts or get a bigger ironing board. But I think I found a solution. Down in my basement I have a nice large workbench. What if I added a piece of plywood on top and covered it with batting and fabric. It could still be removed if needed but would give me a 24″ x 96″ space. Problem solved – except I still need to figure out how to get an 8′ section of plywood home.
